George Walker Tree Care is the appointed contractor to Leicestershire County Council for tree work across its highways, school estate, and Council properties. We are also an appointed contractor for Rutland County Council. These relationships have been established over many years and reflect the high standards of compliance, safety management and work quality that public sector contracts demand.
Understanding the public sector requirement
Local authorities operate under specific procurement obligations and carry significant responsibilities for the trees in their care. Public trees on highways, in parks and on council-owned land require regular inspection, maintenance and, where necessary, removal.
Any contractor working on behalf of a council must be able to demonstrate compliance with health and safety legislation, carry adequate public liability insurance, and operate to recognised arboricultural standards.
Our credentials satisfy these requirements as standard. We hold SSIP Approval via the Arboricultural Association’s ARB Approved Contractor scheme, a designation formally recognised under the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) framework and applicable to CDM Duty Holder work. Councils that use SSIP-compliant contractors benefit from significantly streamlined pre-qualification processes.
